Well-known YouTuber Zack Nelson from the JerryRigEverything channel takes us into the heart of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and shows how its internal structure was designed for easier maintenance.
The universe of foldable smartphones has always been shrouded in an aura of mystery. The advent of these devices represented a real revolution in the mobile industry and, like all revolutions, brought new challenges. One of them concerns maintenance: how to intervene when a device bends? Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 seems to have found some answers.
In a recent teardown video released by the famous channel JerryRigEverythingZack Nelson decided to disassemble Samsung’s foldable device with the goal of exploring the heart of the device and understanding how the company responded to this design and engineering challenge.
The first phase of disassembly immediately highlighted the fragility of the flexible screen. Even with skilled hands like Nelson’s, removing the ultra-thin glass proved tricky and in this case resulted in the loss of a few pixels. Solid evidence of the need for specialized tools to maintain these devices.
However, it continues in his “Trip” Inside the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Nelson spotted several design choices that seem to point in the direction of greater serviceability. One of the main concerns is the battery: Samsung has equipped its leaflet with a specially designed tab that should make it easier to remove the battery. This solution seems to be noticeably more practical than the predecessor Galaxy Z Flip 4, where the battery was attached with a particularly resistant adhesive.
Another interesting point concerns the motherboard of the device, which houses both the camera and the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Also in this case, Samsung’s design decision seems to be aimed at an easier repair thanks to the introduction of Tabs maintenance specialties.
