WINDTRE now allows reuse of the QR code for eSIM activation

Digital calling cards are being introduced by more and more operators. Despite the practicality of eSIMs, there is an inconvenience that could deter especially those who tend to change smartphones frequently: QR codes, essential for activating the eSIM on a new device, often have usage restrictions; Once these limits are exceeded, the codes become unusable and the user is forced to go to an operator’s point of sale to generate new codes.

WINDTRE announces the ability to reuse the QR code for eSIM activation

To solve this problem, WINDTRE has announced in these hours great news for all its customers who are going to use or purchase an eSIM: the QR code required for activation will be available Reusable a maximum of 100 timeswithout any further costs.

Until now, the Orange operator was the only provider to offer eSIMs with disposable codes, meaning users had to go to a point of sale in person to get new SIM cards if necessary. However, with the new system it will be possible to use the same QR code over and over again, for example to transfer your number to different smartphones.

This is therefore a real revolution at WINDTRE, considering that the operator’s eSIMs were officially launched three years ago, in March 2020. Since then, purchasing one of these virtual cards has only been possible in the operator’s stores that receive the QR code on a paper voucher.

The introduction of reusable QR codes will greatly simplify the life of WINDTRE users using eSIM: you will definitely no longer have to get a new code every time you change your smartphone or reset your device; It is enough to keep the original QR code carefully.

This is how reusable QR codes work

But how does the new system work in detail? If necessary, it is enough Frame the same code again to download and install the eSIM profile on the desired device. A simple and quick process that can be repeated up to 100 times.

In addition, from September 25th, the WINDTRE eSIM QR code can also be easily restored via the official app if the original paper voucher is lost. In short, no more annoying and expensive trips to the store to replace the virtual SIM card.

But be careful: the new reusable QR code system only applies to eSIMs purchased or replaced after September 18, 2023. All cards before this date will continue to work with the old one-time codes. To transfer to a new device, it is still necessary to go to a WINDTRE store and pay the activation cost of 15 euros for the new replacement eSIM with reusable QR code.
